Cardiff Bay Sprint Meet
On Saturday 17th July 2010 at Cardiff International Pool after many months of hard work by Heulwen Cooper club Chairperson of Barry Amateur Swimming Club and Mike Looker coach, held its annual Cardiff Bay Sprint Meet. This event used to be called Cardiff and The Vale Sprint Meet.
100’s of swimmers took part in the hope of gaining a 1st place or in the case of many swimmers improving their personal best times. Swimmers from all over Wales and some from England took part in this 50m event. Twenty Nine swimmers from Barry Amateur Swimming Club took part some of them swimming in an open meet for the first time and even some of the swimmers were swimming in a 50 metre pool for the first time.
One swimmer who was outstanding was 12 year old Tristan Ceur who gained 1st place in all 4 events he swam in. In the 50m Back Stroke Tristan improved his time by 5s.76, in the 50m Butterfly he improved by 1s. 95, and in the 200m IM he improved by 7s.14 and this event gained him £10 in winnings.
For the girls the most outstanding swimmer was 15 year old Alice Lewis who gained first place in the 15 year 50m Free Style in a time of 32s.75 and 50m Back Stroke in a time of 37s.98 and 50m Kick race in at time of 45s.56. Alice also gained 2nd place in the 50m Breast Stroke and 3rd in the 50m Butterfly. Alice then went on to gain 1st place in the 200m IM with a time of 2m.57s.07 and gained herself £10 for the effort.
Shaun Bowden in the 9 year old 50m Breast Stroke gained a 1st place in a time of 50s.48 improving his time by 6s.32.
Having gained enough points by swimming well in the 9 year old 50m events Declan Ewington went on to win the 200m IM in a time of 3m.37s.01 and gained himself £10.
Luke Connor aged 9 gained 2nd place in the 50m Back Stroke in a time of 45s.25 and 50m Freestyle in a time of 1m.01s.54. Luke gained enough points to be able to enter the 200m IM and he swam this event in a time of 4m.11s.96.
Not to be out done his older brother Ryan aged 10 gained 2nd place in the 50 Free Style in a time of 38s.40 and the 50m Back Stroke in a time of 45s.59. Ryan also gained enough points to swim in is 200m age group event and he swam the distance in a time of 3m.56s.18.
Well done to everyone who took part in the event and many spectators commented on how friendly the event was.
Although it was a long day everyone who was involved with the event had a very good day made all the easier by all of the people who helped with the event. Heulwen thanks everybody who helped with the event and the bottle of wine that went with the thank you went down very well.
